When She Smiles

Another day, another battle

As you dance this masquerade

You take each step- your heart so brittle

As you walk through life’s parade

You ace the part, and no one sees

The hurt you hide so well

But behind it all lays open wounds

As tears make your eyes swell

You go through today, and stop as you see

A flower that’s soon to die

‘Cause the smile that gives it strength to live

Had tears in her own eyes

She looked at the sky as dark clouds grew

And the sun refused to show

‘Cause the face that’s brighter than his own

Had lost her brilliant glow

That gentle breeze that fondled her hair

Now grew to gusty gale

As the grace that flowed through her every step

Now seemed to no avail

That smile which changes everything-

Beauty turned into despair

But rains that fell as heaven cried

Washed her tears away

Her hands outstretched- her face to the sky

As a raindrop made her smile

Heaven stopped crying- the sky gave way

As the sun greeted her through his shine

A wake of laughter as a gentle breeze

Played tag with her silky hair

And the flower that yearned to see her smile

Grew ten more as she stared

Another day, but battle won

And I hope she realized

That life is good- that beauty flows

Just- and when she smiles
